Habakkuk | A Response of Faith

« Back to Beyond the Message

How to use it: After watching/listening to this week’s message, from June 12, 2022, use the questions to go deeper into the message, with your group…or on your own. The questions will introduce you to the topic, reflect content from the sermon, go ‘Beyond the Message’, & get you thinking about practical applications for your life.

  1. During a very hard time, Habakkuk remembered what God had done in the past. “I have heard all about you, LORD, and I am filled with awe by the amazing things you have done.” Hab 3:1-2 (NLT)

    1. What kind of relationship do you think Habakkuk had with God? Do you think this gave him hope for the future? Why or why not?

    2. What is one or two of your favourite “God memories?”

  2. Looking at the physical world around him, Habakkuk said: “His brilliant splendor fills the heavens, and the earth is filled with his praise! What a wonderful God he is!” Hab 3:3 (Awe: A mixed emotion of reverence, respect, and wonder inspired by authority, great beauty, or might.)

    1. Describe a time when you were “awed” by God’s creation.

    2. Do you feel like your relationship with God changed through this experience? If so, how?

  3. Habakkuk’s faith enabled him to accept what God was doing; “I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us.” Hab 3:16

    1. Describe a time when you had to accept that God was doing something you didn’t like. What brought you to a point of acceptance?

    2. After questioning God’s justice, Habakkuk had a deeper faith, and resolved total allegiance to God no matter what. How are you growing towards that point?

  4. In the face of an apparently hopeless situation, Habakkuk still had this to say about God: “The Sovereign LORD is my strength! He will make me as surefooted as a deer and bring me safely over the mountains.” Hab 3:18-19

    1. Has there been a time in your life when God gave you joy even though your circumstances appeared hopeless?

    2. Habakkuk moved from hopelessness to joy over the 3 chapters of this book. In what areas of your life would you like God to take you from hopelessness to joy?

    3. What is the biggest “take-away” from the Habakkuk series for you?

  5. In your own words, pray the following:

    1. Thank God for the amazing things you’ve seen Him do and heard about Him;

    2. Tell Him about your “awe” of Him

    3. Ask Him to bring the joy of your relationship with Him to the places in your life that seem hopeless.

Thank you for taking advantage of Beyond the Message!

Beyond the Message will resume in September 2022.
