Week 1 | Experience New Life

« Back to Beyond the Message

Summary of this week’s material: Explore experiencing a spiritual new life through a closer look at the ideas of sanctification, justification, & glorification.

How to use it: After watching/listening to this week’s message, from February 6, 2022, use the questions to go deeper into the message, with your group…or on your own. The questions will introduce you to the topic, reflect content from the sermon, go ‘Beyond the Message’, & get you thinking about practical applications for your life.

1) Can you recall a situation where your definition of something was different from someone else's? Describe the situation and how it may have led to a challenge or issue.

2) What stands out to you as the most compelling insight of the sermon this week?

3) Based on the sermon, your previous knowledge or a Google search, how would you define justification?

  • Read Romans 5:18-19. Discuss this passage in light of the sermon and your definition of justification.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" Describe your life before and after coming to Christ or share the testimony of someone you know who experienced new life when they became a new creation.

4) Based on the sermon, your previous knowledge or a Google search, how would you define sanctification?

  • Read Galatians 5:16-18. What does it mean to walk by the Spirit? How can we avoid gratifying desires of the sinful nature? (*Hint: remember Mark's comments on John 17:15-17)

  • How did the phrase, "comfortable ignorance" challenge you?

5) Based on the sermon, your previous knowledge or a Google search, how would you define glorification?

  • Read Philippians 3:12-14. What can we learn from this example from Paul and his reflections upon his life?

  • Take time to pray with your group. Begin with personal reflection. Ask yourself, "Have I been justified? Am I guilty of comfortable ignorance? What would it look like to get back into the race?" Pray together in anticipation of the time of glorification.
