The Book of Ruth | A Noble Woman
How to use it: After watching/listening to this week’s message, from May 14, 2023, use the questions to go deeper into the message, with your group…or on your own. The questions will introduce you to the topic, reflect content from the sermon, go ‘Beyond the Message’, & get you thinking about practical applications for your life.
The book of Ruth invites us to consider how God is involved in our day-to-day joys and challenges. Take a moment to recall and share a time that you saw God move in your life either directly (miraculously) or indirectly (through people and events).
Read Proverbs 31:10-12. While this poem is written from the perspective of a husband reflecting upon his wife, we can apply these words to any godly woman that God has brought into our lives. Who is one woman God has brought into your life that is “worth more than rubies?” Why? How could you affirm her?
In Proverbs 31:25-26, we are told that a woman of noble character is “clothed” in strength, dignity, and wisdom. What does it mean to be “clothed” in virtues?
a. Read Col 3:12-14. Which of these virtues do you think others see you “clothed” in? What is one or two other Christian virtues you could strive to “put on” more?
b. Read 2 Tim 1:5; 3:14-15. Who had a strong influence upon Timothy? What are we told they were “clothed” in?
At the end, in Prov 31:30-31, the true source of a woman of noble character (or any godly person) is revealed; the fear of the Lord.
a. The fear of the Lord is a significant topic in the book of Proverbs. What do the following proverbs teach us about this? Prov 1:7; 8:13; 9:10; 14:27; 15:16; 19:23
b. What does it mean to “fear the Lord?”
