Piecing It Together: God’s Plan for Marriage | Weaving Through Communication

How to use it: After watching/listening to this week’s message, from March 12, 2023, use the questions to go deeper into the message, with your group…or on your own. The questions will introduce you to the topic, reflect content from the sermon, go ‘Beyond the Message’, & get you thinking about practical applications for your life.

  1. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your ability to communicate? What criteria is your opinion based upon? Would you benefit from having a “Marriage Translator?”

  2. Thinking of the person you have the closest relationship with (i.e. your spouse), what different communication styles and personalities do you have? How have these caused challenges? In what ways could you have been blessed by these differences?

  3. Read Ephesians 4:29 and Matthew 12:33-37 to help answer the following questions.

    a. In your own words, explain the connection between a person’s heart and the corrupt words they say.

    b. What can corrupt a heart? (Pastor Mark mentioned two types of things).

    c. What can transform a heart? (ref. Psalm 51:10; Ezek 36:25-27; Rom 10:9-10; 12:1-2)

  4. Read Proverbs 25:11-12. Share a time when you valued receiving an encouraging word from someone and a time you receive a rebuke (i.e. constructive criticism or correction).

    a. Was there something specific about your relationship with that person that makes you open to receive their words?

    b. Read Col 3:15-17 and discuss how we can speak and hear beneficial words that build others up.

  5. Read Ecclesiastes 4:12. Define who the three cords in this analogy are. Practically speaking, how do you weave Jesus into your story? What steps, activities, decisions would this involve?
