The Book of Ruth | Hope Awakens

How to use it: After watching/listening to this week’s message, from May 28, 2023, use the questions to go deeper into the message, with your group…or on your own. The questions will introduce you to the topic, reflect content from the sermon, go ‘Beyond the Message’, & get you thinking about practical applications for your life.

  1. At the beginning of Ruth 2, Ruth needs to carry an “extra load” for her and Naomi. Share a story of when you were in a relationship (friend, spouse, team, etc) and due to another’s absence or inability, had to carry an extra load.

  2. Read Ruth 2:4-13. What role does Ruth play (v.6-7)? What role does Boaz play (v.8-10)? What role do we see evidence that God has been playing (v.11-13)?

  3. Considering all the events covered thus far in Ruth 1 & 2, who do you think Naomi is referring to in Ruth 2:20 when she says, “He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead.” Is she referring to Boaz, God, or both in some way?

  4. Read Prov 16:9. In what ways has God revealed himself to you in a difficult season? Was it through a sudden miraculous event, or “apparent coincidences” and the loving kindness of others?

  5. Read John 13:1-17. What was Jesus demonstrating to his disciples? Looking back upon your past week, what opportunities did you have to serve another? Did you do so? Why or why not?

  6. Read John 13:34-35 and explain the connection between the love we received from Jesus and the love we are reveal to all people.
